Plans to invest in and manufacture automobiles in India were cancelled in July 2023 as a result of government inspection and security concerns. Before 2025, BYD Auto had intended to invest USD 1 billion in a local joint venture with Megha Engineering to start manufacturing.

Moving forward with this investment, BYD is planning to launch BYD Seagull on 2024 

Here’s what we know so far:

Cost: It is anticipated that the BYD Seagull Price will start at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Battery and range: Two battery pack options (30 kWh and 38 kWh, with a respective range of 305 km and 405 km) are anticipated to be available.

Motor: Depending on the battery pack, the Seagull may have an electric motor that is 72 PS or 100 PS.

Transmission: An automated transmission is probably going to be an option.

Features: The sunroof might not be present.

Competition: The Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV, and Tata Tiago EV could be the Seagull's rivals.

Dimensions: The Seagull has a wheelbase of 2500 mm and measures 3780 mm in length, 1715 mm in width, and 1540 mm in height.

Design: It's a five-door hatchback with LED taillights that link and "ice-breaking eyes" headlights.
